Jim Corbett National Park Located in the foothills of great Himalayas and extending over an area of more than 500 sq km, the first wildlife reserve in India, Jim Corbett is one of the most favoured destinations of tourist interest, lies in Nainital in the state of Uttarakhand. The total area of the Reserve is 1318.54 sq.kms consists 520 sq.kms of core area and 797.72 sq.kms of buffer area. The core area creates the National Park while the buffer contains reserve forests 496.54 sq.kms as well as the Sonanadi Wildlife Sanctuary 301.18 sq.kms. The major part of this park is encircled by the North by the Kanda Ridge, with the height of 1043 meter at its highest point. Most of the area of the reserve is mountainous and falls in the shivalik and Outer Himalaya geological region. It makes the catchment area of the Ramganga, a branch of the Ganga.

This wildlife reserve has been the most favoured spot for many visitors and wildlife lovers for a long time.Tourism activity is only allowed in selected areas of Corbett Tiger Reserve so that all the people get an opportunity to explore its splendid landscape and the wildlife diverse floras and faunas. apart from exploring its diverse wildlife, one can participate in several adventure activities such as thrilling wildlife and jeep safari.

During British rule in India, the forests of the Jim Corbett National Park were the private property of local rulers. Though the ownership has passed into the British hands, the government paid bid attention to the upkeep of the park. That timer there was a single objective to exploit the natural resources and extract as much profit as possible from the forest. It was the year 1858 when Major Ramsay drew up the forest comprehensive conservation plan to protect the forest and its entire floras and faunas. in the year 1934 the governor sir Malcolm Hailey, supported the proposal for the sanctuary and wanted the enactment of a law to give it protection.

However, today it is the prime tourist spot of many visitors but at the same time there are also some restrictions for those who may harm the animals. Definitely there are so many interesting things that you can enjoy there independently but also keep the safety of animals in your mind.
